The story of Ann Tours began on April 18, 1975 when Ann Tran became separated from her sons during the fall of Saigon. She wouldn’t see Tony and Tim for another sixteen years. She founded this company in 1989 in Vietnam with the intention of finding them. With the government’s doi moi, or “open-door” policy that year allowing privatization, Ann had an idea to open a travel agency in hopes of American visitors helping to find her sons. She took every opportunity to hand out pictures and letters. Miraculously, it worked. At 4 a.m. one November morning in 1991, Tony, the eldest son, received a phone call. The person on the other end said, “This is your mother speaking.” It was the first time he heard his mother’s voice after sixteen years. It happened that an American traveler had returned from Vietnam and found her son’s names in the phone book. Both graduated from U.S. universities with degrees in business and economics and teamed with mom in the family business. Ann has recently taken her much deserved retirement, while Tony runs the business from Ho Chi Minh City and brother in Southern California. Ann, Tony and Tim have been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, in the Washington Post (04/30/1995), and on a PBS documentary entitled, “Vietnam Passage: Journeys from War to Peace.” Other articles have been in guidebooks such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Frommer’s, Insight Guides, “Fodor’s" and "American Express Platinum Magazine.” We look forward to meeting all of you and helping you to experience the warm hospitality, fascinating cultures, and beautiful landscape of Southeast Asia.
