JOB PURPOSE:
The Social Impact Project Officer will support the Human Rights and Inclusion Manager within the Livelihoods and Social Capital unit. The core roles of the unit are:
(1) developing strategies, approaches, and tools that catalyze and support business action toward the achievement of sustainability goals;
(2) identifying needs and sustainability risk across the supply chains;
(3) monitoring, evaluating, and reporting for impact and
(4) facilitating and contributing to internal and external learning, sharing, aligning, and influencing. The unit is composed of subject matter experts in Nutrition & Health, Human Rights & Inclusion, and Livelihoods, as well as experts in data and communications. The team supports businesses to identify sustainability risks and opportunities, and design and implement programs. The team provides tools, guidance and sometimes coordination and programme management for businesses to implement approaches and achieve objectives to improve farmers' livelihood and create positive impact on communities and landscapes where we operate. The team also promotes alignment and cross-learnings across business units, participates in global platforms and influences the wider sector agenda, while learning from other experts and stakeholders, and promoting ofi’s reputation.
The Social Impact Project Officer will support the subject matter experts on project implementation related to human rights due diligence, child labor and women and youth inclusion in agriculture and other social initiatives. Human Rights is one of ofi’s high priority areas due to the growing global demand for products and ingredients that are sustainable and socially responsible, as well as the global call to action for multinational companies to work through multiple pathways (i.e. addressing salient human rights risks in company supply chains, protection of children’s rights and advancing women’s contributions) towards food system transformation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Human Rights and Inclusion Manager, the project officer’s tasks will include, but are not limited to:
1. Manage various pilot projects for implementation of Agri-Supplier Code (ASC) Verification ensuring this process helps drive impact in the field (25% of time):
a. Develop material and train field teams on the ASC verification process
b. Liaise with digital teams to ensure all teams have access to ASC verification digital tools
c. Support field teams with ASC verification sampling, survey deployment and results analysis
d. Support field teams in developing ASC verification reports
e. Support field teams in developing ASC compliance action plans
2. Manage pilot projects for Monitoring and Remediation Systems for Child Labour and Forced Labour (20% of time):
a. Develop material and train teams on the CLMRS and FLMRS processes and systems
b. Liaise with digital teams to ensure all tools are tested and ‘live’ for relevant teams
c. Liaise with digital on an ongoing basis to ensure teams have access to digital tools.
d. Support field teams with survey deployment and results analysis
e. Support field teams in data collection and reporting
f. Support field teams in putting in place remediation plans and monitoring
3. Run the ofi annual ‘Kickstarter Program’ to advance human rights impacts in the field (15% of time):
a. Plan communication strategy for the launch
b. Review proposals and seek clarification if needed
c. Award proposals with final budgets and support transfer of funds
d. Receive and review mid-term reports to ensure projects are on track
e. Receive and review final reports
f. Create a final report on all Kickstarter projects awarded in the given year
4. Manage roll-out of global grievance mechanism (15% of time):
a. Support field teams with trainings on the global grievance mechanism
b. Support in the development and dissemination of awareness raising materials for ofi’s stakeholders in farming communities
c. Support field teams to set up optimal internal structures for timely response and resolution of grievances, gather and share best practices.
d. Prepare reports for management
5. Support the HR&I manager to design, guide, report, and advise internal and external stakeholder as needed (10% of time).
a. Support the development of presentations, reports and other materials for internal and external discussions on various human rights priorities
b. Support coordination between teams, follow-up and tracking of tasks
6. Support ofi field teams in select social impact project implementation (15% of time)
a. Monitor project implementation and donor reporting
b. Coordinate project partnerships and provide technical support for activity implementation
c. Monitor financial reporting
