About the role:
We are looking for a proactive and technically strong Automation Engineer to support manufacturing excellence, automation, process improvement, and quality performance at Thermtrol (VSIP) Co., Ltd. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving production challenges, improving manufacturing systems, working with cross-functional teams, and applying automation, data, and continuous improvement tools to drive better efficiency, quality, yield, and cost performance.
Key responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing Technology
- Follow up plans for building samples and new products; provide process, automation, and technical support for manufacturing operations to improve performance, efficiency, yield, and profitability.
- Interface with relative personnel to actively troubleshoot issues and continuously drive manufacturing process improvements.
- Ensure all assigned goals pertain to Safety, Quality, Production, Cost Standards, and Operational Excellence.
2. Automation, Machine Design & Control Systems
- Lead and assist in the development, design, and integration of automated production systems, machine components, custom fixtures, and PLC/control programming.
- Validate, start up, and optimize new automated equipment, machines, and processes before transferring them to production/related departments.
- Design, implement, and maintain user interface (HMI/UI) software/dashboards for machine operation, process monitoring, and operational data display.
3. Molding & Process Engineering
- Develop, optimize, and maintain injection molding processes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective production.
- Specify, procure, and validate injection molding tools and equipment; lead mold trials, tool qualifications, and process validations (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Collaborate with tooling vendors/mold makers on DFM (Design for Manufacturability) reviews, modifications, and repairs.
4. Data, Systems & Inter-departmental Database Management
- Data Collection & Analytics: Design, set up, and continuously improve automated data collection systems from manufacturing processes for real-time analysis, traceability, and quality tracking.
- Database Enhancement: Continuously upgrade, optimize, and maintain project/task management databases and inter-departmental databases across teams.
- AI Tool Integration: Implement and leverage AI-supported tools to enable fast, efficient data retrieval, automated reporting, and process decision-making.
5. Documentation, Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Standardize operations by writing and updating Operating Instructions (OI), Procedures, Work Instructions (WI), Troubleshooting Instructions, and Calibration Instructions for new equipment and automated systems.
- Implement cost reduction initiatives, reduce scrap, increase process yields using Lean & Six Sigma methodologies.
- Ensure full compliance with company regulations and international quality standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, CQS, IPC-A-620, etc.).
- Train production, technical personnel, and subordinates in new automation equipment, new processes, and database tools.
- Perform other ad-hoc tasks assigned by the superior.
6. Reporting
- Report to superior (weekly & monthly)
- Evaluate performance of subordinates (if any) with their acknowledgement, based on performance indicators e.g. the reliability/accuracy of studies, timeliness, attendance, discipline, etc.
- To timely report ad-hoc matters or obstacles for getting support from the superior and all departments.
