We are ITL - VELA, a forward-thinking company building and operating a next-generation 4PL platform that connects transportation, warehousing, and logistics solutions across multiple modes and ports. As we expand, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Software Engineering to lead our technical teams and contribute to cutting-edge logistics solutions that will shape the future of supply chain management.
· Lead and mentor a high-performing software development team (30+ members), consisting of Software Engineers and Product teams, to deliver innovative logistics technology solutions.
· Manage both in-house and outsourced development teams, ensuring quality and timely delivery of projects while monitoring and improving vendor performance.
· Oversee the full software development lifecycle, including architecture design, implementation, QA, deployment, and operations, while adhering to best practices (CMMI, Agile, DevOps).
· Adapt and refine software development processes (DevOps, BA, Engineering QC, Release) to meet business needs and ensure they work effectively in real-world operational conditions.
· Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, including Group Companies and Ventures, to understand business goals and translate them into scalable, effective technical solutions.
· Implement large-scale software deployments for operational teams (500+ back-office members), ensuring smooth and secure integrations with existing systems.
· Maintain and enhance a robust knowledge of supply chain, logistics, warehousing (Bonded, CFS, Cold Chain, etc.), forwarding, aviation, customs clearance, and eCommerce… etc.
· Foster a spirit of innovation, encourage problem-solving, and drive bold, strategic decisions with a high level of ownership and accountability.
· 5+ years of experience managing software development teams, with a proven track record of successfully leading teams of 30+ members including Software Engineers and Product Managers.
· Experience managing both in-house and outsourcing vendors, with a focus on quantitatively assessing and improving their performance.
· 5+ years of hands-on experience with software development processes, including CMMI, Agile, and DevOps methodologies.
· Proven ability to manage large-scale software deployments for teams with 500+ back-office members and ensure smooth operational execution.
· Extensive expertise in the .NET programming stack, including:
o Strong knowledge of C# and the .NET Core/ .NET Framework for building high-performance, scalable applications.
o Experience with ASP.NET Core for developing web applications, APIs, and microservices.
o Proficiency in designing and managing micro services architectures using .NET technologies.
o Expertise in dependency injection, asynchronous programming, and unit testing frameworks (e.g., xUnit, NUnit).
o Deep understanding of .NET performance optimization strategies, including caching, load balancing, and memory management.
o Knowledge of Azure DevOps and Visual Studio for CI/CD pipelines, project management, and collaboration.
· Deep domain knowledge in:
o Warehousing (Bonded, CFS, Cold Chain): Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), automation in warehouse operations (e.g., RFID, robotics), and inventory management. Strong understanding of bonded and customs-regulated warehousing processes and how cold chain logistics integrates with WMS.
o Freight Management: Experience in freight forwarding software, transportation management systems (TMS), and handling multimodal transportation solutions (Air, Sea, Land). Familiarity with the specific operational requirements and challenges of managing freight across modes and regions.
o Aviation Business: Knowledge of cargo handling in aviation, air freight logistics systems, and customs processes related to air cargo, and integration with airport cargo terminal management systems. Understanding of ground operations, security regulations, and optimizing aviation logistics networks.
· Expertise in DevOps environments, including experience with:
o Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
o Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate infrastructure management.
o Containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes for scaling and managing microservices.
o Monitoring and observability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or Datadog to ensure high availability, performance, and troubleshooting capabilities.
o Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP for designing scalable, resilient cloud architectures.
o Security best practices within DevOps, including automated security testing, secrets management, and secure provisioning of infrastructure.
· Strong problem-solving skills, a mindset for innovation, and the ability to take bold actions while managing risk.
· Excellent leadership and communication skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams and working closely with stakeholders to meet business objectives.
