Engineering and Preparation
- Define the installation scope, design basis, metocean/geotechnical inputs, mooring configuration and assumptions; establish the deliverable register, engineering plan and technical scopes.
- Prepare/check method statements, procedures, pre-lay/hook-up/tensioning sequences, arrangement and rigging drawings, defining hold points, tolerances, monitored parameters and contingencies.
- Perform or technically review installation-stage analyses and operating limits, verifying model inputs, load cases, acceptance criteria and interfaces with the permanent mooring design.
- Evaluate vessels, winches, anchor handling equipment, rigging, installation aids and survey services; prepare MTOs and requisitions, evaluate technical bids and support fabrication/mobilisation inspections.
Offshore execution
- Provide offshore engineering support/supervision for anchor/line installation, FSO positioning, hook-up and tensioning, checking as-laid/as-built records, tolerances, measured loads and required load-test records.
- Coordinate anchor handling vessels, the FSO, survey, ROV/diving and contractors; conduct readiness reviews, HAZID/HIRA/JSA and SIMOPS reviews, and confirm weather criteria and hold points before operations.
Technical coordination and Lead responsibilities
- Manage technical queries, deviations and changes through management of change (MOC), updating calculations/procedures and obtaining approval within the delegated authority before implementation.
- Interface with the client, designer, OEMs, contractors and Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS)/Class within their respective scopes, closing technical comments, securing approvals and handing over as-built records.
- For Lead: allocate engineering work, manage deliverable quality/schedule, lead reviews and coach the team, checking/approving documents within delegated authority. Senior Engineers work independently and support junior engineers.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Offshore/Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience:
- Senior: Minimum 8 years of offshore/T&I experience, including at least 3 years of direct experience in the advertised specialist scope.
- Lead: Minimum 12 years of offshore/T&I experience, including at least 5 years in the specialist scope, with experience leading a relevant engineering package or installation campaign.
- At least one relevant project demonstrating substantive involvement in both engineering preparation and offshore execution. The CV should identify the project, system type, personally prepared/checked deliverables and onboard responsibilities.
Essential technical competence
- Experience installing permanent mooring systems for FSO/FPSO or comparable floating units, with knowledge of the spread or turret mooring arrangement relevant to the project.
- Develop/review sequences for pre-lay, line deployment, recovery of line ends, hook-up, tensioning and tension adjustment, using chains, steel wire and/or polyester ropes relevant to previous assignments.
- Experience in installation methods for anchor piles, suction anchors or drag embedment anchors as applicable, interfacing with geotechnical specialists on installation limits and specified load tests.
- Ability to perform or technically review installation-stage analyses covering line tensions, equipment loads, vessel motions, offsets, clearances, weather limits and load-transfer sequences.
- Understand the capabilities and limits of tugs/anchor handling vessels, winches, chain stoppers, chasers, lifting equipment and rigging, including line failure, suspended loads, stored energy and SIMOPS risks.
Software
- Use OrcaFlex or equivalent mooring/marine dynamics software to perform or technically review installation models. MOSES/AQWA/Sesam experience is advantageous; identify software, analyses and the most recent use.
- Use AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and engineering calculation tools. Structural analysis software is advantageous for installation aids reviews.
Codes and standards: Understand DNV-ST-N001, DNV-OS-E301 and client/MWS/Class requirements. Know API RP 2SK or ISO 19901-7 where specified, applying the scope and editions identified in the project design basis.
Language proficiency: Good technical English for client meetings, document review and preparation of procedures/reports, with the ability to explain and defend installation methodologies.
Certifications: Valid project-appropriate BOSIET/FOET or T-BOSIET/T-FOET and offshore medical certification are advantageous. Meet project training and medical requirements before offshore mobilisation; HSE/lifting training is preferred.
Skills and working arrangements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, document quality control and multidisciplinary coordination. Senior Engineers work independently; Lead Engineers allocate, check and guide engineering work.
- Willing to be based in Vung Tau and undertake domestic/international travel and offshore construction vessel assignments as required.
